The Foundation aims to encourage and support the creation and study of Australian literature and language within James Cook University and elsewhere. Its principal annual activities are the mounting of a lecture by a prominent Australian author or scholar (the Colin Roderick Lecture), which is free to the public, and the offering of the Colin Roderick Award of $10,000 for the best book reflecting Australian life published in Australia in the preceding year.
