Our aim is to provide volunteers to visit refugee families in their Townsville home. If you volunteer with us, we will be asking you to assist people with learning English at a conversational level or higher. Some tutors help with the children’s homework, others simply visit each week as friends. We try to make sure that the families feel welcome and cared for in our community.
Tutors, working in pairs, visit the home of a refugee family for one hour a week. These visits are mostly scheduled between 4 pm and 6:30 pm of a weekday evening. Tutors need no qualifications, experience or special skills. We are looking for people who want to know that they can make a difference to a family and to a person’s future. Volunteers can work with a friend or be placed in a team who match their own time availability.
Additional requirements:
We run police checks on all volunteers.
St Vincent de Paul will assist you to get a Blue Card the National Police Certificate. There is no charge to volunteer for these checks.
