Born in Townsville, Councillor Vera Dirou’s roots run deep in our community. Despite travelling around Australia due to her husband’s military service, Townsville has always remained her true home. Settling back here in 2008, she’s developed a profound understanding of the pivotal role Council plays in shaping the community’s everyday lives.
With a career spanning over two decades in various capacities within the Department of Defence, Cr Dirou brings a wealth of experience to her role as Councillor. Her diverse roles, including logistics, compliance, internal auditing, and administration, have provided her with valuable insights into governance and community service.
Throughout her journey, Cr Dirou has developed a keen appreciation for transparent and accountable leadership across all levels of government. She understands the challenges faced by our community as the cost of living continues to rise and is committed to ensuring that Council delivers the best possible value to its residents.
Cr Dirou firmly believes in the power of community and the importance of supporting local initiatives. With her dedication and vision, she strives to make Townsville an even better place to live, work, and thrive.
