The Reef Authority is the Australian Government protected area management agency of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, and has been providing world-leadingmanagement since 1975.
The agency’s management is guided by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 and the best available science to protect values, reduce threats, and improve the current and long-term outlook for the Reef and the communities that depend on it.
The Reef Authority works together with other Australian and Queensland government agencies, industry, community organisations, and individuals to help achieve our vision of a healthy Great Barrier Reef for future generations.
The agency’s head office is in Townsville, and there are regional offices in Cairns,Airlie, Yeppoon, Gladstone to keep a close connection with those communities. This in addition to staff in Brisbane and Canberra.
