Townsville Community Legal Service aims to:
- Provide a free and accessible legal service
- Seek legal and social change
- Address inequalities in law and society
- Promote legal education
- Provide crisis counselling and support and/or referral to appropriate agencies
- Create an area in which the social welfare aspects of clients’ lives are recognised
- Encourage community participation in the delivery of the legal services it provides
Townsville Community Legal Service operates on an appointment-only basis.
Can provide initial legal advice on a wide range of matters including:
- Family law, domestic violence and child protection
- Appeals against Centrelink decisions
- Minor civil disputes
- Coronial matters
- Credit and Debt
- Some immigration matters
- Guardianship and estates
- Consumer issues
- neighbourhood disputes
- Minor traffic matters
- Insurance
- Motor vehicle property damage
- Elder abuse, mistreatment or financial exploitation.
